Welcome to the Urban Light Lab
The Urban Light Lab addresses questions related to the evolution and maintenance of fitness traits with a particular focus on mating systems. We have also recently become interested in understanding how extrinsic stressors such as light at night or oxidants can impact biological processes. Our research is largely conducted on invertebrates, but we have recently commenced a project on an iconic Australian vertebrate, the black swan.
Our group is endlessly enthusiastic, vibrant and as diverse as both the questions we ask and the ways in which we answer them. We use field and laboratory-based manipulations, behavioural observations, immune and sperm assays, chemical analyses (such as HPLC and GCMS) and molecular techniques (such as microsatellites and RNA-bait and capture).
